It's not basic, so effects that search for basic lands (such as the ability of a Lander token) can't find it, but it does have the appropriate land types for effects such as that of Sunbillow Verge (from the Aetherdrift release)

Despite this it tends to be the blue decks that play it as it is such an effective way to bolster your early game when you lack low curve cards which is something blue struggles with more than the other colours in Magic

By itself, its quite bad
